Have MCs brother explain this to him and if you need heavy dram have MC say he shouldn't have to work that hard and the cat is to blame for being weak. If you dont do that have MC learn from all his pokemon about their strengths and weaknesses and have the cat come back with moves that Is compliment and synergize with the cat's style. Basically give it night slash(it can Manifest as a sword) petal blizzard (it can act as a smokescreen + barrier + long range attack) flower gift ( it is it's signature move) and play rough (for coverage and acrobatics). Then with this new way of battling he cleans through half of nemona's team before losing nemona keeps her title and MC wins in the sense he hasn't gotten this far in a battle with her before.
