That it coincided with sinnohtoddler twats assuming any remake would be an ORAS-clone then pitching a shitfit as they got a 1:1 port by whos and a game that completely ignored their childhood experience doesn't make it any less of a canon series game.
That's the crux of the issue, Game Freak decided ANYTHING Pokémon they do in their universe is canon to their Pokémon series. kids try to gatekeep constantly because they can't accept Game Freak's approximation of what's canon or not. Especially when they reference 'mon caught locations in every game and deliberately ignore recognising actual spin-off caught locations like orre at the same time ("it came from a distant land/it travelled across time and space to join me from the hisui region")
