The later Pokemon games have the best designs. XY had the best overall designs of a single gen. In terms of the actual Pokemon themselves, XY is the best game in the series. I fucking love Aegislash.

I actually still enjoy Pokémon and don't think there's been as big a dip in quality as people here like to say. The dexcut is probably the one big issue, otherwise I still find the games fun and charming in a weird soothing kind of way.

The Pokemon world is sanitized and boring now. Real world places like India, Russia, and America, and real world animals have been retconned in favor of a pure fantasy. It's gotten to the point where people consider the Pokemon world to be a utopia.

but despite that, /vp/ will continue to deny they're an improvement over the originals because of trivial reasons like the Game Corner being removed or affection making a braindead game slightly more mindless

You also forgot the forced EXP share making the game more mindless, and the downgrades in visuals and music.
I'm sure there's more too but I dropped it before it even officially came out. Complete downgrade over the originals.

I'm not sure what you mean, this board is 50% arguments, complaining about nu-gens and how Pokemon has got to shit.

It also had the best looking battles. Scarlet and Violet looks like garbage in terms of battle. SwSh had better dynamic angles, more omph, and just fantastic animations in general

The physical-special split is the most overrated feature Gamefreak has implemented. On paper, it sounds great but in actual gameplay it has little impact as for every Pokemon that greatly benefited from it, there was also a Pokemon that was significantly hurt by it, pic related. It was also the beginning of types losing their identities:

Rock moves are inaccurate but have a chance of a good effect.
Fighting moves are strong but have some form of a drawback.
Dark moves are weak but disrupt the opponents attacks.

In addition Gen 4 was when Pokemon started receiving way to many coverage moves, therefore subverting the game's philosophy of needing to have a diverse team of Pokemon to cover up each ones weaknesses.
