RS removed compatibility and transfers with the previous 2 gens but they had no choice due to technological limitations and they even look the opportunity to improve on the battle system. Also every missing Pokemon was returned to the series before the next generation.
BW wanted to provide players a brand new experience by giving us a region with only brand new Pokemon (with the most new Pokemon of any generation to date). An decision made in direct response to the one criticism of the otherwise beloved HGSS (too much reliance on GenWun Pokemon and KANTOOOOO).
Not to mention you could transfer all older Pokemon into Unova with the sole requirement being beating BW to give players a chance to get acquainted with the new Pokemon instead of sweeping everything with CHARIZARD.
SwSh gave use a shit story, braindead game play, a barren world, annoying characters, godawful animations, ugly overword, a powercrept shitshow, and actively spat in fans faces by FORCING us to abandon beloved favorites in Pokemon Prison.
Ironically, Legends cuts even more pokemon than SwSh did, but people don't complain about Legends because Legends has genuine merit.
