I was in the 4th or 5th grade at the time, I didn't have a huge handle on the whole stats thing, and I used Kingler for water moves and Venusaur for grass moves (both of which were all special back then). I'd also usually drop Sandslash for Mewtwo after opening up Cerulean Cave. In a couple of runs I'd trade out Kingler for Slowbro.

I must have played through gen 1 four dozen times or more but I always gravitated around the same 10 or so pokemon.

Yeah, I definitely get that now, but we didn't back then for one reason or another.

The whole reset thing started when a friend decided he wanted to see how much harder or easier Brock would be with a different starter and didn't realize that saving would reset his game. The rest of us decided to reset in solidarity and then reset again about a week later at a sleep over so we could all get all 3 starters for pokedex completion. After that restarting just wasn't a big deal.

There is hardly any forgettable Kantomon except for Lickitung and Seadra and maybe Wigglytuff. They all have a unique charisma, are instantly recognizable and are very expressive, something that became less and less common, now almost all of them are serious.

Why is the horsea line in general kinda forgotten? It feels like they should’ve been more popular. Horsea was kinda shilled by the anime, Kingdra was one of the only available dragon types in gen 2. It’s not like they’re super bland or anything. What went wrong?
