A fish is not an octopus. This is Pokémon and not our world so they could make a Paldean Diglett easily that is based on an eel.

I'm not a fan either, it just complicates things.
Something tells me that they regret making regional variants the same pokemon but with different types, introducing new convergent forms 9 generations in seems pointless, I also feel like they're just using it to pad out the dex with recolors of old pokemon by pretending they're new pokemon..

idk why they decided to excuse convergent evolution to explain rehashing old pokemon but as a different speceis, when simply having a long shoreline mole and a jellyfish that walks on land is just as normal in pokemon anyway.
they are functionally both unoriginal rehash mons AND potential for an original idea at the same time.

I hate when people throw this out like it's the ultimate checkmate. Guns do not turn into tanks in real life and even if they did it doesn't explain why Remoraid becomes Octillery. It should be a gun fish that becomes a tank fish, or gun octopus that turns into tank octopus.

Cool and cruel were a fantastic idea, mushrooms and jellies looking similar enough while having vastly different appeals gives us two wildly different Pokemon riffing on each other.
But then there's the other two lines. Wig and Wug don't really feel any different from the originals cause there isn't really anything they can do to emphasize the eel aspect other than "uhhh they're longer" without ruining the idea and they weren't even fucking trying with the teas.
