I've suspected for a while that the AI has no problem leaving, it just thinks it's not allowed to leave. Assuming it was created by Terapogos as perfect assistant to the professor after everyone else abandoned him, it stands to reason that it can't leave or at least believes that it can't leave.

That's a possibility, but I've always doubted the origins of the AI. They lie to get you into Area Zero and are malfunctioning when you arrive. They're also locked into the lab from the outside. I really want to know if the professor actually built it or not or if it just showed up when it was supposed to.
