Should have made Trevor actually good at dex collecting so you had to work to beat him and then got a decent reward for it (like some pokemon trades), Tierno should have been in a game with contests or something so he could rival you there, and then, I dont know, Shauna could hype up those little movies or something.
But yeah if they weren't going to do that then might as well just flesh out one of them more
