>>54735738>Is there a positive to your least favourite generation that isn't to do with the new pokemon or the new characters they bring? It produced one of the best Elite Four themes.
BW produced what I think is the best Gym Leader Battle theme in the series, from the standpoint of, "This is a test of your growing skill!" I think plenty of euphonious gym battle tracks fail at creating the vibe of a gym battle; a lot of them are far too dramatic and it's terribly inappropriate. BW's has a sort of cutesiness to it that reflects the immaturity of the player's power, and this matches the fact that gym leaders are purposefully holding back for their challengers' sakes. At the same time, it has a verve that makes it invigorating to listen to and creates a face-paced tone that raises the excitement of the match.
I prefer BW's original version to BW2's remix, but in a way, BW2's version works better for the latter stage of the challenges, particularly vs Drayden, where the undercurrent is, you've reached or are drawing nearer to the end of this period of growth, and the challenge becomes more serious (which unfortunately is far from reflected in the team compositions). It's got less of that aforementioned cutesy quality to it thanks to the reinstrumentation. Still, I think it beats most of the other generation's gym leader themes due to how well it's composed in itself, but also how much better it represents the nature of the challenge than they do.
