>>54738959>Do people play gen 4 instead?Meanwhile, Gen 4 is in quite a few ways just mini-Gen V OU, with similar tiering policies.
Both of these have lost twice over in popularity over the past several months of this year to Gen 3 OU, which unlike them, has way fewer things banned relative to what was actually in the game, including Baton Pass still being allowed, Arena Trap being allowed, no Latixs, no Scarf nor Specs nor Life Orb, no Stealth Rock, no Hidden Abilities, no ability buffs, everything that ended making the game ridiculously offensive impresent, while still offering its own skill-based forms of offense that are generally more challenging to pull off thanks to the strength of defensive counterplay in this gen.
But more to the point, the question of whether Gen 4 OU or Gen 5 OU are currently more popular has been rendered irrelevant for the time being, because they both have been *overtaken* (---I must remind or inform you that two years or so ago, and for many unbroken years, gen3ou was unambiguously less played than both of its successive gens) and dwarfed in popularity by gen3ou to an embarrassing degree.
They both need to look in the mirror and ask how they lost so hard to a gen where a lot of Showdown's current playerbase wasn't even born yet to experience.
I suspect they will go the way of gen 2 apologists who say "the world is wrong" as the play dwindles into the low 6 digits, rather than meaningfully alter their tiering policies and decisions.
