I still believe that regigigas should get slow start as an ability and slaking should get something that nullifies it's ability for a few turns. Archeops is the outlier here because it's actually really fucking good still, even with defeatist.

Regigigas has no real reason to have Slow Start. He's needs a bit more stuff to get than Non-drawback Pokemon with similar or even higher BST that are allowed to run around like mad.

If I were to propose a new ability, an ability that directly interacts with any of its five creations in doubles could go. No need for Huge Power or whatever.

I was thinking more like since it used its hands to create the Titans, it could use its craftsmanship to boost one of five stats, depending on which Titan it is. It could be a once per turn boost, or a sharp increase at the first turn.

That, or said Titan gets healed 1/8 each turn as long as Regigigas is out as a partner. Would make up a little for lack of good recovery.

I always liked this approach. It keeps Regigigas identity intact, gives it a unique role as a bulky raidboss without making it busted or impossible to play around, and it mechanically makes sense. Energy Herb Regigigas should be a thing.

I am flabbergasted by the fact that GF went out of their way to let Regigigas have his signature ability even in a game without abilities, and Pokemon fans STILL went "wtf? gamefreak? do you not understand that makes it bad?" I mean, I know that this fanbase is full of literal autists and children, but even the densest walnut brain in the world should have understood by now that Regigigas is supposed to be uniquely bad. This is intentional.

The simplest way would be to add a held item that nullifies the ability of the Pokemon that holds it.
Would be useful for the Pokemon with negative abilities while also having a niche to give to the opponent with Trick.

Slaking with a neutral ability like illuminate or honey gather would better than Palafin. It’s significantly bulkier, has all the coveragr in the world, and untapped utility moves like Slack Off and Bulk Up that are never used.
I think Archeops might work in OU if not become UU, but Regigigas and for sure Slaking would be Ubers instantly.

Archeops is stronger and faster than Garchomp and has a crazy good movepool for a pokemon that's just a snake bird (Switcheroo, taunt, SR, knock off, and head smash on top of being able to run mixed sets). It's crazy good, but in a fun way. It deserves to be released out of its defeatist ability.

Archeops has a lot more downsides

Archeops has a lot of its own advantages but it has crippling weaknesses other than Defeatists. Defeatist isn’t even that big of a deal, certainly not as bad as Truant or Slow Start, especially on Archeops who only sees Defeatist activate via passive damage as its OHKO’d by most things.

If that were the case, Archeops would already be used inspite of Defeatists. Archeops is so frail you rarely get to see it drop into Defeatist range, in fact you see it less so because passive damage is less common in VGC than in Singles.

A rock slide spammer like Archeops is supposed to rely on sash. Its role in doubles wouldn't be much different from what Lycanroc is already used for.

Compromising the power of rock slide is too huge of a drawback, and defeatist also precludes it from having potentially useful abilities.

Contrary to popular belief, a defensive profile is massively important even on offensive Pokemon, and so is reliable STAB. Archeops is way too slow for how frail it is and has a bunch of weaknesses to common types.

In the current VGC meta the only relevant Pokemon that outspeed it are Flutter, Chi-yu, Chien-pao and Bundle. It also has similar bulk to all these mons, while hitting harder than all of them with dual target STAB.
Weaknesses don't matter for what it does. Hisuian Arcanine also has lots of weaknesses and it's doing great.

Zacian makes up for its STAB combo being bad by having massive Atk after Intrepid Sword, hard to match speed, incredible bulk, and in Gen 8 had anti-Dynamax move.

It’s too slow for how frail it is and for being a Flying type. You also have to consider that being a Flying type, its much harder to get tailwind up on your team. There are about several dozen of ways for the opponent to outspeed Archeops.

All these Pokemon are on VR, naturally outspeed it, and plenty more outspeed Archeops with boosts like Swift Swim or Booster Energy that are also on VR too.
