I always thought that Hoppopotas was from Hoenn because its cry sounds like it was made using sound fonts from RSE. There’s also an entire desert area in Hoenn, so it feels right at home there.

These are unofficial magazines. There was also the anime and internet sites had the full list (ofc without clear information). Even if you by chance missed all this you would know there are spaces in the dex and thus eventually find them if you played enough.

Gen 6 and 7 as a whole, they're a blur to me. Same as 8 and 9.
Mostly because I only play what are now considered "retro" Pokémon games. My only firsthand exposure to gen 8 and 9 pokemon was in Radical Red.

I don't know if it's because I actually confuse them for gen 5 mons or if it's just wishful coping on my part where I wish the gen 6 pokemon I like were actually in a good gen.

Yes, but there’s more to it. Skarmory shows up a lot more in Gen 3 then Gligar does.
>Skarmory is early-mid game in RSE while Gligar is Emerald only and only in that Safari Zone
>Skarmory is used by Winona and Steven

No one's with me on this but as a certified Hoennbag I think it's fucking weird how Sandshrew is a Gen 1 pokemon. Like no shit it's a gen 1 pokemon since everyone played gen 1 first and it's common as fuck, but to me it's just so much more fitting for Hoenn's desert region that when I played Leafgreen I couldn't reprogram my brain to think "wait Sandshrew is from Kanto?"

I never got pokemon in different generations mixed up. Even the more niche stuff I put so much time into the games I had everything kinda hard memorized.
However moves I do still get mixed up what gens they came from. Mostly signature moves that got wider distribution.

When i was a kid I thought all pokemon up to gen 3 were “old Pokémon” (basically released at the same time). When i saw the gen 4 ones, i called them “new Pokémon” and thought that was the first time more mons were getting added kek

Alot of newer pokemon names I don’t know off of the top of my head. Like I can describe any pokemon well enough. “Oh that gen 7 ghost and grass anchor pokemon with a ship wheel for a face you get from fishing spots” or “that gen 8 fire centipede with the fire mustache and a really long Gmax form that the fire gym leader used”

Meditites are on like every battle girl in Hoenn and are common in Victory Road, there's no way you'd think it was a Gen 4 mon unless you started with 4 or only played FRLG.
