I remember this series very fondly, it was one of the best things Pokémon anime gave us. They didn't suck Ash's ass because Ash wasn't actually there!!!! The stories were centered around beloved characters telling aspects of their lives. Even Professor Oak, Casey and Ritchie had episodes to themselves. Plus the humor was good. Plus, I'll say it again, there was no Ash!!!!

It's a tragedy that they never picked up this project again with more characters and just stuck to only sniffing Ash's farts, telling the same basic story over and over and over and over and over and over again.
