I'm one of the few people who was using /qa/ before it got associated with basedjacks. that board has a wildly entertaining history and I wish more people knew the story of it. some examples:
>/qa/ was unlisted after it's initial use and forgotten by basically everybody, eventually it was so slow that the people who used it figured out the unique IPs never exceeded twelve and that there were twelve people using the board. these dweebs later referred to themselves as "the twelve" and acted like cringe cultlords when the board got more popular
>for a couple of years the board was mainly a battlefield between some dozens of people that wanted to turn the unlisted blank slate board into anime/random, and some of them autistically spent all day manipulating the catalog so that any thread that didn't have an anime OP would be shoved down to page 10 and off the board
>a few frogposters found out how much it made these catalog manipulators seethe to see even just one pepe in the catalog and would make a pepe thread once or twice a day and regularly bump them
>got to the point where one of the animefags made a bot to manipulate the catalog with
>the basedjack OC general sprouted up around this time, they mostly kept to themselves but would sometimes enter a thread and copypaste huge portions of text and put them next to a basedjack. after a month or two of this they were basically ignored by everyone else.

the mods moving meta threads to /qa/ is what started getting the board populated again, but people who made threads like that were bullied and saged off the board by the animefags. the bulk of actual genuine meta discussion was relegated to the general thread that mostly kept to themselves which was the only thread allowed to stay visible in the catalog after the board freeze, that you can go look at yourself now. people coming to the board for meta discussion were clueless and often surprised at what they found themselves wading in. it was very chaotic for a while though due to all of the "hiro approved meta thread" threads being moved into it which then became more obstacles for the animefags to move off the board, and there was a lot of seethe when the board became listed.

I remember when it was actual questions and answers back in like 2019 and early 2020. It wasn't the most active board, but the discussions about boards and all that stuff was legit. Then around the end of 2020 it became the gem madhouse that it is known for today

there might be a grey area that I didn't know about between the anime/frog exodus and the soijack takeover, I wouldn't know because I was a part of that exodus(I didn't go to pissu and I wasn't a frogposter, I just found the board uninteresting after they were all gone). was it really that long ago? holy shit I'm getting fucking old as shit

I really liked /qa/ around the time before it was listed, it had the same energy as /b/ around '06 or /r9k/ around '09. mods had to stick their noses in it I guess. enforcing the rules is fine but I can't stand it when they try to dictate board culture.
