I don't get why we have to follow around braindead characters on a fucking guided tour of a region when we should be able to freely explore it and have the story revolve around actual pokemon instead.
SWSH, PLA and SV aren't like this, which was a little better, but SWSH and SV get held back by being horrifically shitty games for one reason or another. SV does dedicate significant portions of the story to acting as a truancy officer for misfits, helping some faggot work through his parental abandonment issues and mindbreaking a shy kid into a deranged heap, but it's more tolerable than SM for me.
