This kind of shit is (partially) why BDSP’s tower is fucking awful. You have this RNG nonsense combined extra RNG nonsense (bright powder), common focus sashes (and multiscale), memes like banded explosion Licky and scarf gambit Staraptor, and more limited options at your disposal than any other game released in the last decade. Your options in 3v3 singles really boil down to picking the strongest mon available and abusing substitute (possibly sash) to avoid the inevitable OHKOs.
