MC was an alright game, but LA and Oracles were far superior. The world really isn't all that big and movement never felt right in MC, especially navigating corners or being super slow when in mini mode.

there is lots of empty / repeated space, maybe even more so than on pkmn games.
Just because the sprites for structures are bigger than 16x16 doesn't mean this is good. It's just bigger, but has no more detail.

This topic has been talked to death. The most work is done on the mon sprites, not the overworld. No other game has 386+ sprites from at least 2 different angles.
