BDSP outsold PLA but wait, BDSP are two games while PLA is one.
if you divide the sales of the listings for sister titles by half, then PLA is #2 and if you divide RBG's sales by three, PLA is #1.

Therefore PLA is the best selling individual Pokemon game

The point if you DON'T lump different versions together, and consider each version a different release, with its own sales numbers - PLA comes out on top. It literally is the single best-selling pokemon game. No version of any generation has sold more, unless someone can prove that pokemon Sword sold like 21 million and Shield only 5 million. But afaik they never released individual version sales numbers, so halving is all we can do.

Was never going to happen. They wanted kids to know what the fuck was going on in Legends with it occurring chronologically before DP's events but featuring a character chronologically older than the events of DP (outright displaying a Lucas who saved Sinnoh from Cyrus then got whipped back in time to save Hisui from Volo and ensure Sinnoh emerges as he knew and to ensure he got born).
And no kid running round two christmases ago knew what the fuck a Cyrus was.

No, he's right. Per-unit sales (as in two versions = two units) has Legends. RGB sold 31m, yes. 31/3 leaves a 10.34m per-unit total. SS sold better than that, by selling 12.96 per-unit. The only closest per-unit approximation was Yellow with 14.64m - a 19 thousand disparity.

If PLA was released as a set of 2 games, the total sales would be about the same.

Similarly, if every Pokemon game was released as a standalone title (i.e. Gold and Silver instead just released as Pokemon 2) the rankings would all be roughly the same.
