It's unfortunate that the Pokeball artisan in the next episode is a girl, because Orio getting on suspiciously well with a strange dude could provide some jealousy/shipping moments. I'll settle for anything hinting at it though. They have done adult romances in the past, so it's not impossible.

Game dawn became champion of Sinnoh and/or conquered Hisui. Anime Dawn is a weak nerfed shell of her game counterpart who couldn't even beat a demoralized Maylene who only had one Pokemon.

Finished my retrospective watch of all the Leagues Losses/Victories- with the exception of Battle Frontier. Didn't quite make it, but it is still November 11 somewhere.

One Year on does the Ash v Leon 4-parter still hold up?

I'm going to start by addressing the NND ratings, I can see why the episodes got those ratings. Once it became clear that this was going to be Ash's biggest challenge, and even his penultimate season, it was always going to be held to a different standard. And unfortunately there was enough bullshit going around that I feel the win needs an asterisk on it.

-Dracovish hidden power-up, which you can't ignore as they spent two minutes with multiple characters drawing your attention to it. Not entirely sure why he needs a power up, and I'm a Vish fan. Dracovish was easily the most overpowered Mon of that Generation.
-Somehow cancelling Psychic field by hitting it with a Bug Move
-Rabbit like Beckham using a Fire GMax instead of Max Quake

Though upon watching it again, it seems there's an obvious explanation for why Rabbit like Beckham got one shot.

1. They wanted to showcase G-Max Fireball, which hadn't been used in the show yet.
2. Compare Ace v Chu to the time allotted to Zard v Chu, they wanted to kill the bunny off as soon as possible to get to the obligatory Ace v Ace fight, with two of the most iconic Pokemon duking it out. It was something they realised, and prioritised, and the quality of animation shows.

Which is not to say there were not some clean wins to be had. Like Dragonite taking out Dragapult which Dra--no it's a fucking Seismic Toss with flashy meteorites.

Yet taken as its own it is easy to see why Partners IV was rated so well. It is not just the catharsis (and there is a lot of catharsis here given it was this, the Zard v Chu battle back in Indigo that sent Ash on an eternal journey) or the nostalgia- plenty of that too. Taken on its own, Partners IV was an extremely well-animated slugmatch of two popular Mons duking it out.

Of the times he won, he usually won against game characters (Gladion, Leon), someone set up to be invincible and an obstacle to overcome (Leon, Damien) or non-canon (Damien)

In comparison to the other wins?
OG-OI- Gonna have to give this an asterisk on this one given how many moves that Dragonite but unlike most cases the other side had the boons
SM- For all the hate the SM League got, there was less noticable bullshit other than Chu turning Electroweb into a trampoline. Probably his cleanest win but overshadowed by the fact that Alola League was written as a beginner league, and it shows. The final battle and first canon win was a 3v3

So now we come to the quesiton, is this how Ash should have won? Should he have won in Kalos instead? In the end, it probably didn't matter too much. Ash was always going to win/lose in an Ash way, and there was bullshit even back then like:
-Chu cancelling out Flamethrower with a little bit of dust.
-Cancelling out the ability-induced Sandstorm with whatever that wa

Cinderace using GMax Fireball is actually somewhat justifiable in kayfabe. Leon figured he could finish Pikachu off with one shot, so he used Cinderace's biggest move. It failed, but in the heat of battle, the Champ made the crucial mistake that let Pikachu get the best of him.

vs Tobias (DP): No, Ash was never going to win it here and I doubt he was ever allowed to win once they made Tobias. Sorry Daipababies. The central narrative of DP was his clash of ideals with Paul, which he won by beating him. Tobias was not the climax, and he was very much not meant to be beaten given how he sweeps everyone with a single Legendary.

vs Alain (XY): Looking back I can see why XYZoomers were so angry. Generally speaking, Ash usually beats his major rival in the series (Paul/Gladion). Once his grand finalist opponent was his rival he had a higher chance of winning. Every other League episode title was a generic reference to a fierce battle and didn't contain the word 'Victory' in the title. That was, until Alola, which was on the nose that someone was about to win. But, at the same time there is a lot that lends credence to the theory that the League was never planned to be the climax of the series, that it was gonna come down to a story that "Alain is strong but a fool who loves strength unlike the more morally pure Ash." Or some shit like that. Post-match Ash is surrounded by his friends. No-one goes to see Alain, not even Manon. And if you were watching carefully, there was a lot of foreboding interspersed with the fight scenes hinting that something was gonna happen. So, once the Writing Team made the Team Flare plot the emotional/narrative climax of the arc there was little room for any other emotional climax, like Ash finally winning.

Here's what they got wrong.

Very few care about the Villain plot, unless it is either Team Rocket (cause Zoomers want to see Ash finally defeat them) or Team Plasma (much subversion and dark). There would be more people interested in seeing Ash win rather than him defeat Team Who? Boomers certainly wouldn't care about a villain. Most fans tuned in to see a win and didn't watch the previous Alain eps besides the Mega specials.

Perhaps they ought have dealt with the Team Villain plot earlier rather than have them hijack the League. Or maybe someone in the writing room could have decided they can give Ash the win, and what the fans want, (climax one) and the win over the Team Villain (climax two).

Of his other losses, I'd also add Cameron as one where he could have had a decent chance. It was still a clean loss, in my view, but Ash should have won this. Just how do you lose in a 3 v 1 situation? With that, it's the most clean-cut example of Ash jobbing.

Base Garchomp is faster than Mega Garchomp, but Mega is stronger. Garchomp is in an attacking tier where power gives it diminishing returns, but not quite so fast that it outspeeds everything, so giving up the speed for the extra attack isn't always worth it.

I much preferred Ash in the role of 'Goh's best bro' rather than the sort of messiah-like super trainer the series pushed him as. JN was mostly about two buddies going on misadventures and experiencing the world, so having it end on this supermassive global note of Ash becoming the world's best trainer felt really dishonest to me.

I really hope they get consistent with Orio's power level now that she's getting a real episode. Actually true. I made that thread and watched the League losses/wins in retrospect before Nov 11 ended. And you know what? In spite of everything I would still celebrate it. It's definitely a change of pace in that it adopts a more arc-based story structure than the episodic structure that the legacy anime often used. People comment on a tonal difference, and it's kind of there; it's definitely less goofy than most of the legacy anime was. So far it's a pretty good watch and things are constantly developing, which I like. There are some people who meltdown about minor shit or things not happening the way they wanted or at the rate they wanted, but overall it's a good series so far with some really top-notch episodes.

Its a decent follow up to Journeys so far. In change pacing it's more plot oriented and gives a bit more focus on the trainers. Aside from a few issues like bailing the two protagonists out a bit more than necessary or starting in Kanto (again) I would give it a bingewatch recommendation.

Although asking this place for this only resorts in obsessive narrative shitflinging from one ESL though. For your own sake if you're gonna give the new program a go, find company to talk about it anywhere but here. Trust me you will save yourself a headache and also avoid getting accidentally sent on vacation for replying to the ESL

Well that was Leon's decision so you can only blame Leon for that. Also Leon wanted a serious battle that's why he let Ash use all three gimmick. Even than G-max Gengar is only fight completely relied on Gimmick. Lucario could finish Mr Rime with or without Mega Evolution by sensing its aura and Pikachu's 10 million volt could not finish G-max Charizard.

Chances are that The Executive wants to shut down Pokemon anime as part of Protect Alain Protocol. Because as long as Anime continue, there always be a risk of Alain losing to Ash & other non-Champion trainer due to new people taking over the anime after a decade.
