I prefer the original designs for Maxie and Archie.

They look more simplistic and evil.

The originals have actually better designs and their personalities are much more decent. Theres something very appreciable about the simplicity of older anime, that's also why i like a lot of gen 9 characters, they look like straight out of an old anime coloring book

I agree that the original designs of Maxie and Archie are more simplistic and sinister, which is certainly the vibe Game Freak was going for. In the remake, I suppose they wanted to make them look more modern and stylish as to make sure they appeal to the young fans out there. Although, the original art style is definitely more striking and intimidating.

I like them in both iterations. I think I prefer ORAS a bit more though.
Also ORAS and Masters EX have expanded Archie’s character to gigachad levels

Archie is way to simple imo. He really doesn't seem like the type of guy to wear a suit. His stance also looks goofy. Remake design really fixed him up imo. I do prefere orginal Maxie though. His remakes design is way to silly imo. Why is he wearing shorts and sweater pants? Maxie seems like the type who would keep it simple while Archie seems like the type of guy who would be all flashy and pirate like.

Gen 3 Maxie is so far above ORAS Maxie (who is a geek for some reason) that there shouldn't even be a comparison. RSE Maxie looks like a guy determined enough to follow his ideals to the end while ORAS Maxie looks like Brendan or even May could easily heem him.
Gen 3 Archie is literally just Giovanni with a seaworld hat while his ORAS counterpart is too over the top. If ORAS Archie's design was toned down a little and added some of gen 3 Archie's gangster/boss aesthetic instead of wearing a skintight suit he would be perfect.

Gen 3 designs are essentially real, fairly practical and grounded outfits
Gen 6 ones are impractical flashy wacky anime fantasy outfits
