If they cut the roster, and I mean, actually cull a large portion of it, they could have invested whatever little time they had to actually, you know, make a game.

That's bullshit. They can hire more people or spend their manhours more efficiently. No PWT, Battle Frontier are choices they made. Making an open world game for an annual franchise is something Ohmori CHOSE to do. Porting over assets from one game to the next is probably less than 1% of their total dev time.

I grew up poor, I never had a second version or second game system to trade with. Most I could do was transfer what I had up into BW2. Recently I finally have actual money so I've been able to buy a 3DS and start collecting everything.

Anon, I didn't expect them to slow down. They make games to sell to 7 year olds. New 7 year olds show up every year, thus there's always a need for a new pokémon game. That's why shitty whobie studios manage to sell 14m copies of a port of a 16 year old game - there's a SHITLOAD of kids from the target age up to about 2012's vintage of kids that never played a Sinnoh game. And that's without even mentioning the further 14m garnered by Legends on a January release. Then you add the normalfags in, then the furfags and all of a sudden adults like you get very fucking rare in the overall voice and that's not even bothering adding the casual market, who dip in and out (only buying when it's on a popular Nintendo system - GB, DS, Switch).
And yet the games have gotten better than what they were, the pokémon they do add have a fuckload more personality on display than previous games (and magnitudes more than amie/refresh showed) while autistic dregs of society still fail to understand the paradigm shift will not revert.

I am in sort of a mixed boat about it, because on one hand I think that roster creep is a very real issue that could have eventually arisen assuming that they didn't go with dexcut. If you just keep increasing the amount of Pokemon in the games then you're going to run into the problem of filesize concerns and having to devote time and resources to update every pokemon's textures, and in the case of SV their entire models. I think the dexcut was something that was most definitely going to happen sooner or later but was something people didn't want to admit. That being said the way GF went about the whole fiasco was a complete mess especially with their bogus reasoning for doing so, and considering how many pokemon eventually did get added to to SWSH and will eventually get added with SV DLC I think we could have delayed it by one or two more generations. That, and part of the outrage is that the bros who don't make the cut for a given game are left languishing inside of home, where their is nothing for them to do except transfer to any switch era game they exist in or be traded off in the GTS. The dexit debate has always been frustrating to me. This isn't a situation where I can get the Pokémon by buying a different version of the game. This isn't a situation where I can get the Pokémon by having someone trade a certain Pokémon from an early or mid-game route with a certain item to me. This is a situation where I can only get the Pokémon from someone that has already beaten the game or by already beating the fucking game myself.

Like I said earlier, I might as well just cheat the Pokémon into the game. Maybe if they appeared in some games but not others I wouldn't care, but the only time I've seen any of my main favorites outside postgame or DLC has been LGPE and BDSP, which are just remakes of older games. There's just no point in me replaying anything after gen 5 (or realistically gen 4) when the mons I've grown up with are impossible to use without transferring them through six different stages of customs.

Because HOME IS the collection now. You don't lose your collection of mons, they've just given you a platform to have them all because the games themselves will not have them all. A lot of you see HOME as a gate that allows you to transfer Pokémon from one game to another when it's more of a central hub, the destination itself. What's the point in being able to transfer every mon you've ever had to every game? You now have a place to store them in and to keep them, that's the collector's dream.

The only people who care are the people who care way too much about being able to use a few really specific Pokémon in every single game. That's not a collector, that's an autist.

The problem is actually the dexcut conceptually. If instead of making home and only making some Pokémon transferable, they didn't make Home, ended transfer altogether, and made it so games could only communicate with themselves or their other version counterpart then collectors would have a sense of closure and they would have complete freedom from a gane design perspective possibly allowing them to make launch titles.
