The fact that they're 3D isn't what makes them bad; it just highlights their flaws. The Gameboy games also had flat and bland Gym Leaders, but they get a pass because there isn't as much of a disconnect (also because of nostalgiafags but you know). The graphical improvements suggest there should be more to Gen 6's characters than there are, and that's why everyone dunks on them.

The first 3 are utterly forgettable and might as well be the same character. Also, all six had the misfortune of only being in one game. Most of the other Unova leaders (Burgh Elesa Clay Skyla Drayden Iris) were in both BW and BW2 so they had more screen time.

XY had extremely poor pacing. The first three gym leaders took quite a while to complete, but immediately afterwards, the marathon started and you just blew through everyone effortlessly.
