She's was probably meant to be slightly overbearing but lines and the way she constantly raises her fists make her seem more abusive than intended. Not helping is that Keiran clearly has mayor self-worth issues mostly certainly due to being constantly condescended at.

The only thing he does wrong is pull a Kenny and try to win Ogerpon in a battle like a prize but even when he loses he he apologizes, and even when he pretty much on the very of a mental breakdown and all but admits that he hates himself for his weakness, Carmine just foes "Ugh. I hate when he gets like that...". No wonder he's so obsessed with strength, since only way he thinks anyone will take him seriously.
