you really have to pay for online for the game to have any value after the story, since the main postgame activity for now is just participating in event raids

Compare what you can do in past pokemon games after you beat the game. The game is barebones as fuck with lackluster content. The only thing to do after you beat the game is tera raids and they are fucking awful because you may not be able to join after waiting 5-7mins each. The DLC doesn't add any replayability either as the minigame is a buggy unoptimized mess. I would wait for the part 2 dlc since that's where the effort went to supposedly. Honestly looking back would I buy these games knowing what I do now? Probably not. They aren't worth $60, get them for cheaper.

I actually forgot about that. It's pretty disgusting how much money this game cost with how little content it has in it. Worse, the games will probably increase in price to $70 and have even less.

It will for Gen 10. If Pokémon follows the model that the DLC is half the price of the base game as shown in SWSH ($60 base + $30 DLC pack), then it already has happened for SV's DLC ($60 base + $35 DLC pack).
Also did I forget to mention that the paywalled online battles also come with a forced hard cap timer of 20 minutes?

S/V actually killed my drive to continue playing competitive. It's so bad right now. Thankfully I've used the time to play other games from my backlog and it's been pretty fun. I can't imagine paying $70 for a game that has less content and things to do from older games that came out 10 years ago. I was a retard for not pirating S/V but I learned my lesson.

The game is ok. It's a open world pokemon game, it's exactly what it sounds like. Yet it also feels like a step backwards from PLA. Mainly because it runs like shit.
If you can get it for cheap and/or already have a HOME sub and have a ton of mons you can just drop in to use. Sure get it. Outside of that I would say pirate it and give it a try. I don't know if there is a demo for it.
Raids are fun just like in Sw/Sh.
Tera is the best gimmick from a game play impact stand point. It also look ugly and lazy.
Some of the new mons are pretty cool.
The characters outside of the main cast like always are shallow as shit but also are pretty fucking ugly.
DLC 1 was written by coomers. Mainly ones into SS and NTR. They also put alot more effort in to NPCs, because coom.
Just remember. It plays just like every other pokemon game outside of it being open world. It's not like PLA where it actually feels like a new Pokemon game. It's just the same old shit we have had since gen 4 with new gimmicks and a open world map.
