I personally prefer gen 5 as a whole but Red is is iconic for a reason

I think only May/Brendan and maybe Dawn come close as great player avatars over base customisation templates

It's really not. The routes are more like establiahed hiker's paths. It's much more like rural countrywalks than going into the jungle with a machete.

You can't blame them for thinking it's hair for 4 reason
1. You can't see any of his actual hair, not even a tiny strand
2. The hat ends in points that look like anime hair
3. Part of the cap looks like a sweatband
4. Characters having weird colored hair in a video game is normal

Actually it's quite awful, what were they thinking

At least they fixed it with Emerald and the remakes
Yeah I know, people were clowning hard on the "double pants" when it first came out, but the design was merely before its time.
I've grown to like em and imagine them being some sort of underlayer for protection from the elements or bugs while walking through tall grass while still being lightweight and allowing airflow.
