It is still fun. Though the caveat is, I just stick to replaying Gens 1-7. Pokémon is a very replayable franchise and I like using Pokémon I’ve never used before.

I know this is a bait post but I’ve played nearly every mainline FF and none of that is true until FF13, which is absolutely a shit game.

This, for me there's no other experience like going through a new region and seeing the new Pokémon and doing local battles as me and who I'm playing with progress through the game.
