Even the best designed game freak gym leaders are too weak. Roark should have had a roar Rhyhorn so your team gets damaged by the rocks when it makes you switch. Seriously, just because the games are aimed at kids doesn't means they have to be piss easy.

yeah, but most of the time you have 3 leveled pokemon and 3 pokemon you haven't even touched

1st gym: 4 Pokémon
2nd gym: 4 Pokémon
3rd gym: 5 Pokémon
4th gym: 5 Pokémon
5th gym: 6 Pokémon
6th gym: 6 Pokémon
7th gym: 6 Pokémon
8th gym: 7 Pokémon (bcz fuck you)
Elite Four: 6 Pokémon
Champion: 7 Pokémon (bcz fuck you)

Fixed that for you, also
>4 types of their specialty at max, 2 at minimum
>have an arbitrary rule to make the battle harder, ie not allowed to have a type that resists their type.

Pokemon game should have a difficulty setting that can be changed up or down at any time that affects how many and how strong enemy trainers are, and how smart the ai is. Let people that want to roll single Pokemon gym leaders that just spam non attacking moves do it. Let people that want to fight full teams of 6 in doubles with synergy and support do it. There's no reason to force a on-size-fits-all design pattern on a game for both small children and forty year old autists.
