RSE are my favourite Pokémon games, but I started with gen 4 and only ever got around to playing them later on. For those who started with gen 3: what was it like? Tell me about your experiences discovering everything, playing with friends, exchanging rumours, etc. Were there any particular spots where you got “stuck” for a while? What are some of the most memorable “moments” for you? This can also be all purpose Hoenn thread if there isn’t already one up somewhere (too lazy to look)

The "too much water" meme is much like the "Blue ambushing you right after a cave" meme, it's blown out of proportion by retards online, or retards who for God knows why didn't use repels or act as if they didn't.

Mandatory water routes are only in the last quarter of the game, and much of that is still spent on land. And yet you see such hyperbolic statements not uncommonly thrown around that 50% of Hoenn is somehow water. They are intermediary routes (like routes in general) that get you from place to place, and those places are land. Even including optional water routes, which also include portions of land and dungeons themselves, and can be traversed at any time the player pleases after the 5th gym or left to the postgame, 1/3 of the game being spent on water is a rather high estimate. But nobody who hates water routes is going to spend their time doing the optional ones in the first place, so it's left to the people who like them. It's a minor issue, if an issue at all.

Agreed, people exaggerate it to ridiculous degrees. Even the few mandatory waters after Lilycove can be sped through in basically no time at all since you can skip 90% of their surface area. Plus, after you get dive, you don’t even need to spend much time at all on the surface of the water. It’s legitimately possible to beat the game while having spend under an hour surfing on water.

If you just shotgun to the leaders instead of checking every item since you don't want to avoid electrode then yeah, you can pretty easily miss the master ball. A lot of people do it in nuzlockes since 140 speed electrodes with gen 3 selfdestruct is a pretty significant risk.

Everytime, it's the repel shit all over again. Surf, strength, and waterfall are decent moves, only rock smash and flash are truly gimping you and the latter is optional, not to mention you hardly need all those moveslots to win. God I’ve replayed Sapphire and Emerald so many times

Started with Gen 2. I'd say it was very big and its removal in Gen 3 along with a couple other features was the start of my constant disappointment with the series where they introduce good or interesting things and then ruin it.
What I like about it is how it enhances the game's worldbuilding and combined with the clock, makes it much more immersive. For example, Hoothoot is nocturnal, makes sense to only encounter it at night, but you can also knock it off a tree with Headbutt during the day where it starts the battle asleep. It also affected the people too such as a store that sells discounted valuables only on Monday mornings.
Yes, I am one of those players who likes playing Gen 5 when the season in the game matches the season in real life.
Yes, I prefer (Ultra) Sun over (Ultra) Moon because of Moon's 12-hour offset.
Yes, I am disappointed with how the Switch games have handled it from being removed again in LGPE to working only as intended in the Wild Area until you beat the Champion in SWSH to whatever the hell kind of desync they did for PLA and SV.

Started with Emerald using Treecko which was my first pokemon. Had trouble beating Drake in the Elite Four for a while and was “stuck”. Then once I beat him and went on to Wallace, I solo’d most of his team with Sceptile.

Yeah this, the strongest reminder I'll ever get that I'm playing a videogame on a portable console is when I have to shut off the game for a specific amount of time and then boot it up again later if I want to catch something for my team. This is even true for berry farming actually, checking in at specific times to grind for something feels gamey.

Noticeable improvements and backslides in all departments. Honestly, it was pretty wild for the time for how much it tried to change. I think if they'd let it cook another year we could have had something special (see: emerald).
