>>54924449Ok anon I know that you probably spend your day on here and shit is trown left and right to every single gen every like, 3 threads, but by GF standards BW were an absolute flop, sure it still sold lots and lots, games like Pokémon crystal or emerald are real flop where they barely sold any copy (this again, by a pokèmon standard) but what you fail to consider is that a sale is not based on raw cash or copies sold, you have to think about the time in requires to complete a game and the effort put in it.
I'll make it easy for you with a simple example:
A) You spend 1 year developing a game and put in tons of sidequests, dialogues and sell 20M copies
B) You spend 3 months developing a game, put in just enough dialogue to not make the game feel empty, and you would like to make sidequest but you don't have the resources to do that and so end up putting only like, 3 fetch quests in, then this game sells 16M copies
If you look at these options from an outsider perspective game A is the better one, since it sold more, but you are ignoring the fact that it costed more to produce (both in raw cash AND in human resources) besides the personal, human, feeling of literally wasting your time, if you worked so hard to make game A, but then with game B you sold basically the same, if not better in terms of costs, why would you, in the first place even TRY to do something like game A again? It would be more efficient and less time consuming to try and optimize option B.
That's basically what happened with gen 5, it didn't sell badly per se, but it stopped GF momentum of always striving to make a better game than the one before (you can check everything in interviews I'm not making this up) they hit the wall, they expected more, and after that they realized that it's easier to just, not invest in pokèmon that much since it will sell either way, if you are not aware GF has two teams "team 1" and "team 2" and guess which one is for pokémon? Exactly, team 2
