I would much rather Misdreavus/Mismagius be the ghost type mascot over Gengar. Gengar’s not even pure ghost type. but Kanto privilege trumps all, I guess.

Gengar is a better mascot
It beat every other Ghost type to the punch, had an iconic anime episode, and was the strongest Ghost around for quite some time.
I get this is a Mismagius line thread but Gengar is far more iconic and well known. Would be very dumb on TPC's part to stop shilling the ever popular Gengar as THE Ghost because it has a secondary Poison typing or something.

one day mismagius was floating around at night when a sun stone was thrown at her face and burned through her skin in a very painful manner but then mismagius woke up in a cold sweat completely fine as the sun was setting so after it set mismagius decided to float around at night again in the exact same way and just then a sun stone was thrown at her face in the exact same way but this time mismagius dodged and looked towards the bushes and saw a glowing sunflora walk out of the bushes to fire a super powerful solar beam charged by the sun that had just set sunflora can do that now yep and then when it made contact with mismagius she started to disintegrate again but then mismagius woke up in a cold sweat again so mismagius floated around and avoid the sun stone and saw a glowing sunflora emerge from the bushes and fire a solar beam in the exact same way again but when sunflora was done firing the laser beam his default smiling face turned angry when he saw there was no body so sunflora looked around with two sun stones in his hand when some bushes shuffled making him throw a sun stone at a cottonee in the bushes when another bush rattled making him waste his second sun stone on a helioptile in a forest who was visiting his friend and now with no sun stones or solar beam charged on standby the evil sunflora looked all around only to notice the shadows draining from all the objects around him before he looked up and saw mismagius who was charging a massive shadow ball which eventually blocked out all moonlight and with an airborne somersault mismagius launched the massive shadow ball at sunflora who caught it with both hands in place as a battle of wills began but just as it started it ended as sunflora was engulfed into the massive shadow ball and had his existence erased returning the shadows to their rightful place as mismagius continued her peaceful might stroll in solitude

Unironically the real reason, both Gastly and especially Haunter are much better and actually look ghostlike. Gengar is a a fat purple blob and I never understood how it didn't fall to Raichu syndrome when it's both trade evo and Haunter embodies everything it wishes it could be. Or again, Misdreavus and Mismagius
