Do you think it could use a reboot?

If it had a reboot, do you think it would be better served by reorganizing the lore to get rid of all the stupid shit that doesnt make any sense?
What would you focus on narratively and lorewise?

It would be a good opportunity to undo some of the powercreep and rebalance some of the systems.
What would you focus on mechanically?

So basically just erasing the gen 4 gods, that's the only lore that really fucks everything up by turning pokemon into beings descended from gods rather than just monsters that exist out in the world.

Stuff like the actual ecology and economy of the world would be nice.
Like how New Pokemon Snap does a good job having pokemon interact and coexist in natural environments rather than be projected onto a naturalistic setting.

Maybe this is also related to the Pokegod stuff, but having a coherent idea for what the real relationship between humans and pokemon is?
It's dogfighting but God says it's okay, and actually that dogfighting friendship is the most powerful force in the universe?
Also humans fuck, and sometimes marry pokemon, and used to be them, but aren't anymore?
Do they come from space? Some of them certainly do.

So, if all the monsters look like this, the product has failed.
Gen 6+ models are so bad, that it has actively killed my interest in collecting the monsters.
I don't know if Sprites would be enough at this point. They were charming for the time, but were past a decade without them. I don't know how well they'd fare now
My approach would be simple. Dexcut a LOT of mons. Like, over half of them. Then spend a generous amount of time providing quality models, and more importantly, animations to all the pokemon. Make more idle or overworld animations, to make them feel alive while they are in your party. Maybe even have interactions between pokemon.
Make a world full of creatures I want to see. Then you can add more creatures in future games.

That's really not even an issue.
Making each game a contained collection experience, like a lot of the spin offs (XD and PLA) would go far into making a complete collection in each game both not tedious and unique.

None of the paradox pokemon have real names.
I get that they're futuristic/primitive version of existing mons, but how does that not qualify as "evolution" that warrants its own distinct name?

Oh, absolutely. That's honestly the biggest thing holding Pokemon back, is the fact that they have to include over 1000 creatures for no real benefit.
Plus, if they truly divorced form it, they could have a big ol "Everyone is here" ala Smash and make the internet go wild in a decade (while also providing the worst game in the franchise, presumably, since all resources would just go into putting characters in)

Just an official form of Pokemon Showdown with all gorillion pokemon.

Let people pay a subscription, that covers bank and access to Official Showdown.
You can only use real mons in certain leagues, and you can custom make mons as well as custom rulesets in others.

Smogon can continue to feel self-important and still cultivate their own rulesets and banlists, etc.

continuous revenue, direct access to player strategies and data so you could actually adjust the difficulty of the games a bit (if they wanted)

Anon, "gotta catch em all" hasn't been a part of this series for years now. Hell, it was never a thing in Japan to begin with, the slogan there was "Getto Daze" which basically means "I've got it!" but I'm getting off track.
Anyway, a reboot wouldn't change that anyway, people who know the slogan will still associate it with the pokemon name like you are now.
To be honest you don't really need a reboot with a series like pokemon since it has very thin lore and stories don't carry over between games beyond a few references here and there.
Rebooting pokemon is basically as pointless as rebooting Final Fantasy.

It does, but it is too late. Gen 3 fucked things up for good by introducing the idea of a soft reboot instead of building onto gen 2 (like gen 2 did for gen 1). It lead to a lot of unnecessary baggage that got worse with each new gen. You can tell GF was aware of this which is why gen 6-8 introduce very little new Pokemon. But they should have started doing this in gen 3.

You don't need a reboot for that.

They're just monsters with an ability to shrink. But yeah, if you erase gen 4 all of those issues go with it.

How did it not build onto gen 2? Battle mechanics continued being added plus the doubles format. The day/night cycle may have been scrapped but gen 3 also brought back the safari zone from gen 1. Emerald's battle frontier was an expansion of Crystal's battle tower. New types didn't really need to be added to the game. AFAIK not being able to transfer pokemon was a hardware limitation rather than a real choice. Do you just mean being more related to Johto and KANTO? Because I don't think there are many people who wouldn't get very tired of the games being connected together like that for a while, and I don't see how it's inherently a good thing over having lots of fresh new pokemon and a (more) distinct region.

Again, like what? If you're referring to the box legendary plot, I wouldn't disagree, although as goofy as RSE's plot was it was better than gen 2's watered down team rocket. I wouldn't really blame the first game to do something for other games doing it either, it's ultimately active choice by GF to continue with something.
