No, last names just aren't brought up all that much. The professors in particular are usually referred to by family name ONLY.

YOU are aware that the "Yukinari" name was made up for movie 4 so that they could refer to the character's younger self by a first name and his older self by his last name to make it less clear that it was the same person, right? It wasn't until SM the name was ever used outside of that movie.

Also it's Okido, not "Orchid". Orchid was just dumbass westerners not knowing how to read.

False, Orchid Yukinari's full name was already included in the Pokémon Red and Green Encyclopedia released in 1996,
And yes, the name オーキド (ookido) is directly taken from orchid, オーキッド (ookiddo), because the professors are named after plants, retardo. At best you could say we should adapt it as "Orchd" or something like that to convey the almost unnoticeable difference, but it's not meant to be "Okido".

"Ooki" mean "big tree", you retard. He's the most important NPC in the game where all NPCs are named after plants, so he's literally named "big tree".
Every fucking Japanese website that talks about his name says this, the "orchid" shit is only found on western sites.

It's also consistently romanized as "Okido" or "Ohkido" every fucking time they write his name in roman letters.

Ookido isn't orchid, that's ookiddo. The "Professor Orchid" shit is just something Dogasu pushed for a while and then dropped after he learned how you actually write orchid in Japanese.
