I think a big reason why "Generic Sinnoh Team" came to be is a lot of kids both don't want to use a one-time use item and are unable to trade.
So these pokemon
>Honchkrow
>Togekiss
>Mismagious
>Electrivire
>Frosslass
>Gliscor
>Porygon Z
>Dusknoir
>Gallade
Would be non-options to those kids back then.
These days its less relevant, because these aren't the newest games/the game where you'd hoard everything, but I think that's where the origin of the "Starter/Luxray/Staraptor/Lucario/Garchomp/Water" came from.

No, it's because almost every cross-gen evo was unavailable before the post game in Diamond and Pearl meaning that you were left with Sinnoh's rather middling roster comprised of a bunch of unappealing, subpar Pokemon.

I really wanna do this, but for whatever fucking reason Remoraid never shows up in a game until around the 4th gym or so.

Milotic is incredible, fills the need for surf/waterfall, downside is you need to find the damn thing and you can easily screw yourself over with the poffins.
Bronzong is great too, only one weakness that you get to pick.
Gliscor is a fantastic pick, it's quick and hits hard.
Lucario is obvious.

Most of the "generic Sinnoh team" are also early game catches, and you already dealt with Maylene's Lucario so you have an idea how good it is after Iron Island.

I think another reason is that Sinnoh has the lowest percentage of new mons (or mons period) who can't be caught in tall grass/caves. A massive proportion of the new guys are caught through alternate means. Of the 53 new non-legendary evo lines in the game, only approximately 26 (depending on how you count a line) can actually be caught through standard random encounters. Fifty fucking percent of the new dex is obtained through things like Honey Tree, Gift Eggs from NPCs, Overworld Events tied to time-of-day or day-of-week, or even weird stuff like Hippodown being tied to catching Unown forms. And most people never interact with those things, so they never see anything but the tall grass Mon's who are only half the dex.

i liked this, they should do it more often.
they issue is that the mons gated behind alternate methods usually aren't worth it. nobody's going to catch a cherubi or carnivine when you could just use torterra or roserade.

There were a lot of good one too though. Spiritomb, Rotom, Drifblim, Toxicroak, Hippowdon, Yanmega for instance are all good in-game mons and are all caught through alternate means (Well Toxicroak got added to the tall grass in platinum)

Yes but you should consider that Fire-types are rare in Sinnoh so it's better to go with the monkey.

For a good reason: they turn the early and late game into a joke. You will only struggle with Rock/Water types but there are plenty of options to deal with those.

You should consider playing Renegade Platinum after you're done with the original version (or before, if you don't have the time for both).

It's a hack that makes battles more difficult, reduces the need for HMs, lets you get all Gen 4 pokémon and gives them better movepools.

Just use other mons that complement it
Platinum unlike every game that came before it has great variety when it comes to every type (except dragon, I think you only get 3 lines before the league and one of them is Giratina), so really just use what you want.

The only reason why this meme exists is because mons like Staraptor, Luxray, Lucario and Garchomp are these super cool, god tier designs everyone wants to use that are also very strong and available early and/or easily
It’s the Nidoking syndrome, every game has these mons everyone wants to use that are pretty easy to get, but Sinnoh has 4 of them

My team, from 2010, was a Scyther with Swords Dance, Aerial Ace, Night Slash, and X-Scissor, a Gyarados with Dragon Dance, Ice Fang, Earthquake, and Waterfall, a Steelix with Stone Edge, Iron Tail, Double Edge, and Rest, a Torterra with Earthquake, Curse, Razor Leaf, and Cut, a Staraptor with Close Combat, Fly, Return, and Steel Wing.
My 6th Pokemon was a Bibarel HM slave with Rock Climb, Strength, Surf, and Rock Smash.

All of the Pokemon were level 46-48, except for the Bibarel (lvl 25) and the Scyther (level 56). IIRC, my Scyther would generally sweep after SD, so I think that the level differential there might be mostly due to him getting more experience than the rest in the actual E4 and Champion battle.

DPP lacking in team building variety is a meme. It feels like it only came to be because this game's early route shitmons are actually pretty good, so people will often just catch a Starly/Shinx/Roselia/Buizel early and stick with them instead of boxing those for better Pokémon later on

DPPT is the easiest game to grind in pre-gen 6. The VS Seeker gives assloads of exp. Adding pokemon into your party that late is doable even if they start from level 1.
