Tbqh I never liked mega evolution. I think it's dumb how it made a lot of op pokemon even more op and how it only made a few shitmons better like Mawile and Sableye (who would've been better off getting crossgen evos anyway since at least they could've kept their buffs for gen 8+)

i hate mega evolutions because it started a bunch of really lazy rehashes of older pokemon

i am fully convinced none of those things would have existed had XY not introduced mega evolutions. it's a shame because some pokemon like Mawile and Beedrill really did need a buff, but you HAVE to use the ugly mega evolution to get it. a normal 100 BST without the gimmick attatched to it would have been fine

i hate megas but let's be fair, only a handful of pokemon can use them and they require the item slot in order to function so you can't do absurd shit such as slapping choice band on Mega Mawile. megas are at least more balanced than dynamax and tera

If they were strictly sidegrades or major deviations from the normal species sure, but when there's objective upgrades like Alolan Muk or regional evolutions that allow them to ascend beyond the original, they feel like GameFreak is saying "we thought the original was a mistake, so we're going to apologize not by buffing it, but by creating a better version of it. Enjoy!" which feels like a gut punch at times. Fucking no one's going to use regular Muk anymore when its Alolan counterpart has the better type combo, move options and ability pool.

Name one that isn't a legendary
>Blaziken, Garchomp, Tyranitar, Gengar
All outclassed in some way by just giving their base forms regular items. The closest I'd say is maybe Gengar but it's not like they're averse to balancing specific megas between games like they did Kangaskhan.

It's funny that people still complain about megas being OP when most megas would be pretty underwhelming if they came back now after the serious powercreep since they've been gone.
It's pretty much just Salamence and Gengar, mainly Gengar because Shadow tag is a bitch. Shit, even in the context of legendaries, the Primals and Mega Ray are just on par with the likes of ShadowCalyrex, CrownZacian and Miraidon.

??? Megas were the last time we had a healthy competitive scene. Everything went to shit with Zmove/Dynamax/Tera bullshit. I still hate megas and think competitive was better before gen 6 but I would be fine with megas returning as long as all the other gimmick shit is dropped. Also Primal Groudon is probably one of the greatest additions to Ubers and I hate that it and Kyogre had to pay for megas crimes.

Why not? Most 700 BST megas were actually fairly balanced, if not rather poor.
Salamence and Metagross were the exception, not the rule.

cross gen evos from the 2D era in most cases are actually brand new designs and almost identical recolors. compare Bellossom, Scizor, and Politoed to Alolan Vulpix, Toedscool, and Iron Jugulis. the difference is night and day
