That mightve just been because towns were not that far from routes + the fact that ROWE was open world.
Why bother with items when towns are so close and you cant even use them in battle anyways?
Some trainers giving you trouble? Fuck it go to another part of the map. Gym leader too hard? Fuck it go to another part of the map. Need to get proteins and shit? Just farm rematches with easy rich trainers.
The fact that it was open world just made things so much easier. If you got stuck, do something else. In RR once you hit a roadblock, you're fucked.
There are some good QoLs in RR which I DID like. Portable PC is nice when you have benched mons to rotate in when you reach a level cap and dont want to waste exp...but it doesnt matter when you hit a certain point where you NEED your perfect team to even get past normal trainers.
