honestly loving scarlet so much right now
playing it on pc with a celshade mod that makes it look just the way i like it
it genuinely is exactly what pokemon gameplay should be like: a grand open world adventure with freedom to do whatever
already finished the dlc, really good story, the characters were great and i cant wait for part 2
for now, i have the base game to complete
there are some minor flaws, but i would still rate it a 9/10
if it had the same celshaded + outlined look like past games, i would have given it a perfect 10 and bought a copy of the game too

yeah
it is the best pokemon game in terms of gameplay and gameplay features
the awe of exploring the world of pokemon, the sense of adventure, the freedom of doing whatever the trainer wants
these games capture it perfectly
the mystery surrounding the great crater has also gotten me hooked up already compared to anything in the past games
i am so excited to go through the base game now that i am done with the dlc, which was incredibly fun
the story-telling has improved so much from previous games
the change in artstyle is genuinely my only gripe with these games
thankfully celshade mods exist

SV's open world is a joke and it doesn't matter in the slightest when there's a demonstrably optimal order to tackle each challenge to use the EXP gains from the previous one to be more than ready for the next one. Skipping a roadbump adds negligible challenge for a small number of fights where a competent game could actually challenge you on its own instead of relying on player imposed limitations. Oh but you can go and fuck off to the corner of the map without anyone telling you no (even if there's nothing there or any reason to go there) so it's good I guess.

Fucking Skyrim has a better open world than SV and it's over a decade old. Anyone who thinks this is a successful implementation of open world design is deluding themselves. If an open field walking simulator would give you the same enjoyment as a Pokemon game, something's gone wrong.

I've replayed SV 3 times already (and planning to replay it more after ID comes out) it's definitely the most fun I've had with Pokemon along with PLA since like GSC & HGSS?

the same people who hate open world, overworld encounters, exp share, ride mons that remove the need for hms, ease of access, quality of life features also ALWAYS praise linear hallways, random grass encounters that need bazillion repels just to make it to the next town, spending 3 hours leveling up all mons to prepare for the second gym, useless hm slaves that take 2-3 slots, and so on
ignore these losers, they just cant cope that the games they once liked didnt grow up exactly as they wanted so they have to hate on the new games

open world and monster collection work so fucking good together because it encourages players to explore every single nook and cranny of the map in hopes of finding rare mons
there literally hasnt been any other open world in gaming that actually gives players a compelling reason like this instead of worthless collectibles like korok seeds
