The real "remake" was Legends.
BDSP was just something they felt obligated to put out since people expected a remake of the original game.
Thinking about it, I don't really think Sinnoh lent itself to being fully 3D. The only games that have a chance are Black and White since they have a massive space of nothing in the middle of the map they could turn into a Wild Area type thing.

BDSP did the 3 most important things:
-it avoided SWSHs shit engine with ps2 trees and fps drops
-it avoided dynamax
-it kept the Sinnoh character designs, didnt ruin them
Sometimes less is more.

Add to that - new faster engine and improved underground distribution, much better teams and QoL things - and you got yourself a solid remake

ORAS is better by a landslide, it really doesn't hold a candle to how bad BDSP was, it was a hallmark as to how a remake should be cause they added moveset changes and more megas, BDSP missed the opportunity for a story plot with Team Galactic and something like Primal Dialga being the Villain controlled by team plasma

No, what makes DP bad are mostly the fact that they're bad games. Pokémon games have unnecessarily slow battles that are even slower in DP with a slow, ugly overworld and needless obstacles like deep mud and fog.

DP is objectively slow, you retard. DP was so slow that it completely killed my interest in playing Pokémon until HGSS. The fact that most of the designs are awful really didn't help. The overworld isn't that bad, I guess, but the locations are really barebones and brown or look ridiculously stupid. Meanwhile, the player has a head the size of their torso and a hat that's just as big. They're one of the worst experiences I've ever had with the mainline games, second only to the cutscenes in SM that convinced me never to play single player again

Tell me what exactly is slow about DP. And no, "everything" isn't an answer. Nobody has every mathematically backed up the claim that the game is slow. Are you mentally disabled? The HP bars and surfing are a huge time sink, as are the EXP bar and Gen 4 travel in general. The Gen 4 engine is slow as fuck relative to other gens.

The areas are gray and brown for like 50% of the game. The central part of the region is a gray cave system and the safari zone has mud to make it extra as brown The colors are dull and terrible. Areas that aren't like this are either water or grass. The windworks and floaroma are the only areas on the map that aren't painfully plain to look at. Any area full of Galaxy Grunts also looks stupid as fuck because it's full of dorks with teal hair who are dressed like they're backup dancers in a music video about sodomy.

I liked it. I think If I say they're awful would be to admit the originals were also awful. I never used the Factory in the originals so if I don't hate the originals, I have no reason to hate the re-releases, just means I don't need to use my 3DS anymore and I'm cool with that. You can meme about reddit all you like. The reality is you pointed it out because you know it's a problem. They are slow as fuck and relevant in every single battle.

The difference is that surfing in Hoenn is faster than walking, maybe even as fast as running. Small stints of surfing in DP take longer than surfing from Mossdeep all the way to the bottom right of the map in RSE. I don't even fucking like RSE, but at least there aren't a handful of elements introduced just to make the game slower like slow surfing, mud, and deep snow.
The reasons people mention these two things alongside the lack of Fire-types is because the games came out over 15 years ago. Everyone knows what the issues are. All you have to do is play DP right after a game in any Gen except Gen 4 to feel the difference. Even then, Platinum feels better than DP by a noticeably degree. HGSS feels better than either because the locations are better, the music is better, and the UI is arguably the best of any Gen. I know you want to be a contrarian, but DP are not worth playing

It's slow all the fucking time. I don't understand how you can be in denial about this. Play Gen 4 right after playing any of the main line games that released before the 3DS. Both the HP and Exp bar feel drawn out when they move. It's one thing if you see it happen and think "oh, that's about 70%" as fast. Then you realize it's like this for every single encounter and those seconds are adding up to some amount no one has ever quantified. DP are objectively the slowest of the Gen 4 games, and therefore the most painful to play.

As a BDSP defender, BDSP didn't change much. The Underground is a lot better but that's about it. ORAS was fine but comparing ORAS to BDSP is comparing a remake to a remaster. It's not the same thing.

A remake is completely remaking the game. BDSP is just D/P but in 3D and using modern types/type match up. If it was just D/P it would be a port. GF/TPC can call it a remake, it's not, they didn't do enough.
