Marnie
>She has no interesting personality, and she doesn’t develop throughout the game.
>Her story revolves around her trying to learn how to smile, which is not good story telling. She’s (not even a shy character in the game, she can talk to anyone just fine, and even battle in the league with everyone watching her, but somehow her biggest issue is not knowing how to smile?).
>She doesn’t interact with you the player that much.
>She’s irrelevant to the overall story, you can remove her and nothing will change.
>She has a whole fanbase praising and loving her for just existing (I’m aware it’s cause she a cute punk/goth girl, but still this popularity doesn’t feel earned).
Meanwhile, the other two have much more going on for them than her.
Hop
>He has an interesting personality, and we see him develop throughout the game.
>He has a good story of trying to escape the shadow of his older brother and make his own path, Hop is constantly trying to escape the feeling of being inferior to his older brother.
>His your best friend, and you interact with him a lot throughout the journey.
>He’s important to the story.
Somehow everyone on /vp/ hates him, despite being an actual character, with story, and development (thankfully his hate cooled down over the years).
Bede
>He has an interesting personality, and we see him develop throughout the game.
>His story of learning to be less of a jerk to the player and the others and trying to prove his worth to the chairman is interesting.
>You run into him occasionally in the story in order to have a battle with him.
>He plays a small role in the story.
>He has a small fanbase of fans liking him here, but not as big as Marnie’s.
P.s. I have nothing against Marnie, I just don’t think she earned this much popularity.
