Joe has a clear UK bias which is probably why ranks SWSH so highly.
Gen 2 should be evaluated within the context of its own time, however. Back when handhelds wee in the Wild West period, and developers only has a few MB to work with, GSC were relatively ambitious games with interesting mechanics and gimmicks. People praise HGSS so highly, likely in part because Game Freak finally had the hardware needed to properly make the game they intended to put out all those years ago. They serve their purpose as sequels to the original game but definitely were held back by their hardware.
