Almost everyone outside of /vp/ hates her for being an incredibly difficult boss and a bratty crybaby but i absolutely love her because she is a difficult boss in a Pokemon game and her brattiness actually makes her extremely cute.

I found Morty to be harder because muh hypnosis dream eater.
The way Johto is designed is that you can access the gym leader as soon as you get to the town most of the time but it will be overleveled so you're supposed to do the other stuff the town and surrounding areas have to offer first to get to an appropriate level first
If you just go to the gym directly you're gonna get your ass kicked

difficulty in a pokemon game generally just means they throw you a curve ball you might not be ready for in the early game and she does that enough to be memorable

Morty’s isn’t as bad many times half his team ends up cursing themselves to death, also if you have have a normal type (and you most likely will) the only reliable damage his entire team can do is from Gengar’s dream eater which requires the extra step of putting you sleep. He is a challenge but you’re more likely to be prepared for him.
Clair is the last leader to being hard is expected.
