I'll never get over the fact that I've probably missed so many shinies in SV because they didn't bother adding a sound, a visual effect or something.

Given the stupidly boosted shiny rates in SV, you're still getting more shinies than you would've in gen 2 or 3.

Shinies aren't even that special, the new real scarcity indicator is certain marks along with shiny and size.

Marks are lame though.
It's not only about getting something rare, it's about getting something cool.
Shinies look different and unique right away, they do a visual effect, and sometimes they look cool.
Of course some shinies are terrible, either ugly or they barely change anything, but you can shiny hunt the good ones.
And marks are whatever, it's just something that says the Pokemon is rarer, with nothing else to it.
