The story of gen 4 is hilarious:
>the villain thinks this world sucks and needs to advance>His definition of an advanced civilization is uhhhh>He wants the legendary pokemon for energy>He is going to use that energy for uhhhhAt least Gen 1 barely worked because the premise was simple:
>Team rocket steals peoples pokemon, abuses them and practices illegal stuff>Therefore stop themGen 5 had a nice topic but ruined by humanist stuff or whatever:
>Truth vs ideals>NOOO YOU DONT GET IT TRUTH IS NOT AS IMPORTANT BECAUSE MY UTOPIERINO>Unaware that rejecting the sole concept of truth itself makes your ideology false by default>N gets convinced by the player because he won the battle and no rational argument was held>Uhmm ackshully I just see that you have a good bond with your poke and well i guess that proves me wrongThe only thing that saves this is the fact that N was being manipulated and was rather being naive, not evil per se.
Gen 3 story:
>Le waterLets not even talk about it
>Gen 2:>Gues whos backWhatever.
Gen 7 story:
>Maniac woman wants pokemon from another dimension because of power or somethingCant even remember what her core motivation was, but at least the cutscenes were cool as heck.
I havent played gen 6, 7 and 9 so idk what happens there.
I dont think it is hard to make an interesting story that even kids can get. When simplicity and substance meet each other, things work
