All I needed to see was Pikachu activating the sprinklers and I knew to separate the games from the anime. Anything else like “oh that shitmon shouldn’t be able to beat this beast” was just shit talking for the sake of it.

I don't mind that type advantages aren't the end all be all in the shitty anime, because that's how the games work too. Pokemon can consistently beat other Pokemon with "unfavorable" type MUs, and sometimes even outright counter them. A Blissey doesn't really care if a special Lucario is a Fighting type, since it can outlast it, for instance.

It's just that the anime would often do some lame ass pull, "aim for the horn!" type shit like a 3rd grader saying he goes back in time to avoid your gun shot. Nothing interesting going on there, just lame shit. I'm sure some autist will come back with a "b-b-b-but in season 69 episode 52 Ash-senpai was based epic and strategic!", but I dont really give a fuck.

Yeah, and used in the opposite way of the anime.. instead of being an inexplicable weakpoint that makes a Ground type instantly fold to a mid powered Electric attack, it's used to leverage the users immunity to guard allies... in other words, doubling down on that immunity.

It's weird too, because I'm pretty fuckin sure the anime dealt with the concept of type immunities and what not.

I mean, they kinda do, no? Within the bounds of logical and consistent gameplay, of course. Things like Freeze-Dry being SE to Water types, or Salt Cure's DoT being more effective vs Steel and Water types. They turn traditional matchups on their head with logical and unconventional uses of the user's typing.

Sometimes they'd bring them up and then come up with an explanation as to why they ignore them (eg: Onix was shown to be immune to electric attacks until it got wet), and sometimes they'd just ignore them (eg: Pikachu defeating a Marowak with thunderbolt)

In AG they came up with an explanation of pokemon being resistant to electric attacks because they can redirect electricity to the ground, which made ground/grass pokemon weak to electric attacks as long as they aren't touching the ground.

Then in later series it's far more consistent with ground mons being immune to electric attacks. There's been a few mistakes here and there but it's far less common

That at least makes sense. Onix is super weak to water. What doesn’t make sense is when something like Tyranitar fucking dies to a Pikachu’s Thunderbolt, while Charizard in base form can tank it somehow.

That episode literally explained that the games are just a basic simulation of real life Pokemon battling where everything is simplified down to some numbers and percentages. The entire POINT was to explain why the anime doesn't bother following the "game rules".

It’s not like “oh Charizard evade the Hydro Pumps until Blastoise gets tired, then use Thunder Punch”, it’s “oh Charizard tank fucking 3 Hydro Pumps and then fucking oneshot Blastoise with Flamewheel”.

Its just a lazy, stupid explanation because the writers couldnt be arsed to understand the game mechanics enough to craft actually feasible battles. Also dumb because the anime is the adaptation, not the other way around. Theres 0 reason it couldn't have at least attempted to follow the game logic, and it would've been better off if it did.

I said break rules with style. Anime still should sense the power levels of certail Pokemon and the sense of moves. It should be creative with battles but still keeping the suspension of disbelief.
