>>54998071nta but the way they're animated in Gen 5 is by "cutting" the image up into different pieces, layering those separated pieces in place, and then shifting them around. There's some traditional sprite animation mixed in there, like when the mouth might open, or some such, but a lot of the leg work is done via a different method -- in other words, it wouldn't be any more difficult to animate those bait sprites compared to the real ones.
The real question is how the DS' resolution would handle a larger image like that, as it'd like need to compress it to fit the same scale as whats in game, so itd probably end up looking like ass anyways.
