I am going to take this as an opportunity to add that I like the way Hoenn handled new pokemon in the mainline games: predominantly new guys with a few staples like geodude still around. Didn't care for the Johto and Sinnoh technique of almost all old pokemon with a few new ones readily available and some other new ones obtuse to find, though I think Johto's was ok if it's viewed solely in the context of gen 1 being the only other games. I like the idea of the gen 5 technique of nothing but new stuff but you hit a point where there's too many gaps in the "ecosystem."
The XY and on system of mostly old mons with a majority of the new mons not being too hard to find is good, and allows for some great regional pokedexes, but doesn't feel exotic enough to me.
