Imagine spending thousands of hours of work, and hundreds of dollars, all for no compensation, just for the CHANCE to compete in a tournament for a cash prize to win your money back. They should remove EVs, IVs, the special split.
Additionally all moves should have accuracy capped at 85

RNG in like 90% of causes is the developer’s band-aid fix to balance issue. In critical hit for Pokemon, it’s there to prevent moves like Bulk Up, Curse, Iron Defense, Calm Mind, Cosmic Power, etc. from being too overpowered.
They could make moves like Chip Away or abilities like Unaware more common and/or more viable. But that’s way more work and could screw over balance of other things easily, so random chance to bypass stat boosts is the easy solution.

I have come to appreciate critical hits but I’m not sure if they’re objectively good. I played Temtem for a bit and because there’s no ability to crit it’s extremely safe to just stacking your defenses as high as possible and waiting for the timer to run out. Also I’m pretty sure big games use a best of system so even if you do lose a game because of a crit that shouldn’t cost you everything.

Crits are a bad solution to a real problem (defense stacking).
They themselves are not that bad, but are part of a bigger picture with a lot of rng that makes competitive pokemon something that simply can't be taken seriously.
