When will reddit accept that some gens do not try to just spoonfeed you every new pokemon? There’s nothing wrong with using older mons as common encounters and making some new ones more rare as kind of Easter eggs. Acting like doing this is objectively worse design philosophy is retarded and arbitrary.

These were the 100 newly introduced pokemon of GSC. As you can see, a large number of pokemon are crossed off, done for a multitude of reasons. This is specifically meant for crystal.
>black are starters not chosen
>pink are baby pokemon obtainable only through breeding
>red are version exclusives to GS not available in crystal
>green is for baby pokemon you can find in the wild
>yellow is postgame only
>blue are trade evolutions, 6 were introduced in gen 2, which is 2 more than gen 1 despite the smaller dex
>brown is a special event mythical
>gray are utter shitmons, which I was generous with and could have easily crossed off a few more
This is 50% of the gen 2 pokemon. There may or may not be a mistake in there somewhere but this is overall pretty accurate. Why are gen 2 mons like this?

Jotho was supposed to be a continuation of gen1, the idea of new regions with completely different ecosystems wasn't there yet.

I did the same thing for gen 1 (Blue) and had to cross off only 21% of the dex, compared to 50%. I didn't bother color coding it though. I suppose you could argue that a few more can be crossed off as shitmons, but no matter how you slice it gen 1 has a significantly better dex and pokemon.

You can cross off some others like Heracross and Mantine for being overly difficult or tedious to obtain and not worth using. Sneasel is an utter shitmon. Why did Chansey of all Pokemon need an evo?
