Set up the disassembly and find the png of the graphic in the gfx folder. Then replace it with your image. Make sure your image uses grayscale or indexed colors.

I'm not sure about Firered, but in Emerald at least it would be pretty easy
Just change all of the aiFlags in src/data/trainers.h to how you want them to be
The Emerald Expansion adds extra flags you can use as well, like setup first turn, stall, smart switching, omniscient, etc., but it's probably not hard to write a script that just swaps every aiFlags line for check bad move, try to faint, and check viability at the very least

Adding new mons/moves/statuses/abilities to my hack was pretty fun since I like C and Assembly, so I would recommend that if you think you would like it too
On the other hand, I'm also putting new maps together, and it's fucking miserable having to pick the right tilesets and metatile shit

Is there anything like Altered Emerald for Fire red? I loved how it felt like it was a fourth version of that generation, the tilesets all being redone, adding all kinds of new mechanics, new areas, expanding and reworking tons of the existing game, but still maintaining much of the original feel and not being too difficult.
I just want a hack that let's me experience gen 1, but with all kinds of new things to explore and with a better tileset. Gen 3 default tiles are so dreadfully boring

Save editors look in very specific places for certain data in the save file. When editing a rom, you're likely going to be moving around where that data is located.

damn i thought that might be the case. was hoping i could get my team from gaia onto other games with a save fix, but the gen 4+ pokes don't even show up. guess it not recognize them. think if i plug the .sav into a later gen game it'd be able to pick the fuckers out or is it a lost cause?

Absolutely not, because those games have their own data structure for each Pokemon. Let alone a different set of event flags that gen 3 does not have which would further shift around where the Pokemon data begins.

I chose Pokémon New Emerald to be the romhack I finally completed the Battle Frontier in. It only has no big rebalancing other than some later gen moves and fairy type added so the experience was quite vanilla as I was hoping. Having an IV checker was a godsend to breed mons for specific facilities and I probably wouldn't have bothered if it didn't have that.
Now I kinda want to try the gen 4 Battle Frontier but none of the Platinum romhacks I look at has IV checkers or similar teambuilding QOL in their documentation. Do you know any to recommend me?
