>>55010461The series is weirdly inconsistent with whether or not eating Pokémon is taboo.
Multiple Pokédex entries refer to Pokémon eating each other, Sneasel is known for eating eggs whilst Aipom more recently was updated to say it preys on Bounsweet.
Bounsweet's entry says it was prized for its sweet flavours in ancient times, but also says that they just harvest its sweat instead.
Slowpoke tails were supposed to be a sign of Pokémon abuse for profit in Gold/Silver, but the modern situation is they just fall off and instantly regrow. Detective Pikachu Returns makes a point of a Slowpoke willingly sharing its fallen off tail as food, and Pokémon Sleep has Slowpoke tails as a harvestable ingredient for cooking meals.
Otherwise, ingredients in games with cooking or meal preparation mechanics like Sword/Shield, Scarlet/Violet, or Sleep, go out of their way to state that ingredients resembling meats like sausages and burger patties are made with vegetarian ingredients like beans.
Another thing that Pokémon Sleep makes confusing is the existence of an ingredient called "Fancy Eggs", which look like chicken eggs.
These imply that some Pokémon are able to reproduce eggs which are not intended for reproduction of the Pokémon species.
Fancy Eggs are primarily gathered by bird and snake Pokémon, but for some reason the Mareep, Pikachu, and Lucario families can also gather them. Where the fuck are these eggs coming from, can any Pokémon produce eggs for nutrition versus reproduction?
