I still own my original GBC and cartridges but the convenience of the VC editions on the 3DS is way better when I feel like replaying Gens I and II. Rechargeable battery instead of buying AAs, backlit screen, wireless trading instead of messing around with a link cable etc.

No, but I was playing Crystal on my GBA since it was backwards compatible.

After the GBA SP there was literally 0 reason to ever go back to weekly replacing AA batteries into a GBC.

Yeah, I was a poor student and wasn't paying/couldn't afford €150 for essentially a SNES, when I had gotten a playstation 2 (I cannot stress how insanely popular that system was back in the day - the chilli peppers decided for a video game theme to their "Californication" single - during production, the PS2 released and they revamped all the visuals to avoid making it look like it was rendered on older tech because of its capabilities at the time) to fuck about with. Didn't play it that often, but scrathed an itch every so often with Red.

I never liked the SP. Uncomfy, no headphone jack, the main SP model's backlight wasn't too different from my Afterburner backlight on my original GBA. The original GBA feels so good to hold. If I use a GBA today though, it's actually my Micro. For GB/C games, I still use my JP Johto Game Boy Color. Been playing that regularly at home for a month or so.

Buggy unfinished mess that's worse than the modern games in every possible way. The fucking TYPE CHART doesn't work as intended for fuck's sake, and special being one stat makes psychics the most OP type with no counters.

Still buggy, and worse shinies are tied to stats and the Physical/special split is a big fat lie and stays a lie until gen 4 when they finally fix that shit.

FRLG, LGPE, and HGSS all exist and are better ways to play gens 1 and 2 than RBYGSC.

I skipped out on gen1/2 to get a GBA for Ruby (then Sapphire because I was a dumb child who didn't understand versions at the time). I'm sad I didn't get to play Emerald to this day, but I REALLY wanted Latias after watching Pokemon Heroes
